“Last time I did not receive a piece”

Without question “Office Space” is one of my favorite movies of all time.  Unfortunately too many of us have felt like Milton at one point during our career.  But whether you feel like Milton or not, everyone would like a piece of the “career cake”.

Passive candidates are usually defined as “those not actively looking for work”.  For organizations that require top level talent, they’re a necessity. Typically passive candidates are employed and content with their current job, but often have some underlining reason that keeps them open to new opportunities.

“Candidates want to get their cake and eat it too!”

The underling reason is often why passive candidates will even consider your position and interview.  So why the cake reference you ask? Simply put, candidates will want to get their cake and eat it too!  It won’t be enough to just offer a better organization, closer commute, or stronger career path.  Passive candidates will want all of those things, and a much stronger salary too.  Failure to offer all of the above might leave your position open and a trigger a meeting with “The Bobs”.

Parents and grandparents for years told us we couldn’t have our cake and eat it too.  In today’s low unemployment economy, passive candidates can and do.
