“Sometimes we are so lucky to have the simple things in life”

I write a lot of articles and blogs on all phases of Talent Acquisition. It comes with the territory of running an Academic Search Firm.  I feel fortunate and lucky to be exposed to these subjects and share them with willing readers like you over the years.  It is very rare that I jump off the “professional train” of topics but on this rainy Friday morning I was inspired to do so by my seven-year-old son Spencer.

Spencer is pretty fond of his daddy (as most little boys are) and I of him.  He is pretty obsessed with making sure he waves goodbye to me from the front door as I pull out every morning.  We have one of those front doors with the side windows and as I turn my truck down the street and off to the office he never misses the opportunity to squish his face against the glass and give a wave.  In turn I make sure to slow down, roll down the window regardless of temperature or weather, return his wave, give him a thumbs up, beep the horn quickly, and be on my way.

This small interaction every workday morning provides incredible joy to us both, and great motivation for my day.  After this morning’s wave I thought just how lucky we both are.  When I was Spencer’s age my Dad was off to work long before I ever woke or the sun rose.

It’s incredible how lucky I am to have this.  I encourage you to find something simple in your life that you are so lucky to have.  It can be the morning sunrise, a laugh with a coworker, or something far more profound.  Either way we are sometimes SO lucky to have the simple things in life.

Happy Friday – “Wave, Thumbs Up, Beep Beep”
